Jim's Best of 2008. This one will be the worst, so good thing I posted last.

Best Movie:

Due to the fact that I live in the sticks, I haven't seen any of the movies that really wanted to see yet, so I'm betting it will either be Synecdoche, NY, because Charlie Kaufman makes me feel like a total idiot (which isn't hard, but I do enjoy). Or The Wrestler because I love cheesy underdog/comeback stories, probably because I was raised on Stallone gems like Rocky and First Blood. Or it could be Benjamin Button for the fact that David Fincher and Brad Pitt working together is always a really, really good thing. But as far as movies I actually watched.

I saw it at the movie theatre, and while it was nowhere near as good as Timur Nuruakhitovich Bekmambetov Russian movies (nightwatch, daywatch and the sure to be sick Twilight Watch) it was hilarious. The dude is a Russian director that tried to make a "boom-boom, sexy American movie", this dude's view of what America is, and what Americans like is depressing, true and super funny. Just imagining this dude screaming at the actors to "make sexy" makes seeing this movie worth it.

Honorable Mention: Wall-E

Best Album:

Parts and Labor, Recievers

I've always liked bands that try and make an "album" rather than a bunch of songs slapped together. For me this album is perfect, give it a listen.

Honorable Mention:
Titus Andronicus: The Airing of Grievances, The Hold Steady: Stay Positive,

Best Song:

Titus Andronicus: Titus Andronicus/No Future.

These two songs back each other. I love when a band can pull off different sounds on the same album and it not be retarded i.e: When bands that cannot d0 slow songs try anyway (usually the second to last song that you skip everytime). The first one is a great example of what "punk" should sound like in 2008 and the second song, is a great My Bloody Valentine shoegazey ripper that has one of the best build ups since Jawbreaker's Accident Prone, also it's 7 minutes long and I never get bored and he makes the phrase "welcome to the terror dome" sound poignant and deep and not a reference to a Mel Gibson movie. Two tracks later they also read my favorite passage from Albert Camus' "The Stranger" so I was a little biased.

Honorable Mention:
Girl Talk:Play Your Part (Pt. 1) Which was a pitch-perfect summer jam

Best Blog:

You Will Soon. Super funny and it's about shoes and talking shit, which are two of my favorite past times.

Honorable Mention,,,

Best Streetwear Trend:

This is a dumb category. What am I supposed to say Flannels and Raw Denim? As far as brands, I have to disqualify brands I work with because I have an unfair bias. It was Us Versus Them, hands down the best t-shirt collection.

Best T-Shirt:

The Award Tour: Limitless Possibilities, VLNY: Black Friday Thieves, VRS Astronaut and the one we did for Ritual Ink.

Best Drinking Spot:

Outdoors in the afternoon, I think I did this all of twice this year, and that's my New Year's Resolution, to skate more mini ramp while having beers in the sun. It's snowing and it's 29 degrees in my store currently, because I forgot to turn the heat on last night, so I just got misty even thinking about how nice that would be.

Honorable Mention: Damian's apt., Snug's back porch, Jesse's Stoop in Philly, Ryan's Roof.

Best Boner:

Motorcycles, straight up, makes everything slightly more fun. Picture me rolling on this thing come spring.

Best Anti-Boner:

Working weekends, this past year marked the fewest times I skateboarded, got drunk and slept since I started all those things. So fuck you 2008 for that, but due to the crippling economic depression that probably wont' be an issue in 2009. So my anti-boner for 2009 will be going out of business and getting a job at Best Buy.
Also, blogging, I seriously hate this thing, I'm too self-conscious for this, also I'm not very funny or interesting so that gets in the way. You are supposed to end on a high note when you are blogging it up right?
